Writing Prompt #2

Sorry it’s a tad late, I did have it written, this is yesterday’s prompt. Todays will be out later.

Today’s writing prompt: A Plot of Earth: You’re given a plot of land and have the financial resources to do what you please. What’s the plan?

I actually don’t know what I would do. My first thought which I eventually do want to do is to build a house that’s totally off the grid. A house that’s eco-friendly and away from the hustle and bustle of the city, a place where I can live off solar panels and have a mile long garden. Somewhere, where I don’t hear cars on the highway. The cost of living theses days is so expensive, and the way I see it is that were paying to destroy the atmosphere. Were paying for all the greenhouse gases that get released into the air.

I actually wish we would rewind just a bit. I live in an area that use to be all farmer’s fields and vineyards. There was a forested area about a block away that they’ve logged and have started to put in a housing development. We moved out into this area because it was far enough away from the hustle and bustle but not too far away to get to everything we needed. Now the city has started encroaching. I wish we could go back to where we got our produce was the farmer’s market, what happened to supporting our local farmers, instead of buying crap at the grocery store from Mexico that spoils in two days.

They tell us their raising minimum wage to 11.00/hour. That’s all fine and dandy but it still doesn’t help us any (middle to lower class income) because now their going to raise everything else, to offset raising minimum wages.

As a young adult whose struggling to find a full time job, juggling paying rent, buying groceries and paying back a student loan and living with my parents, the cost of things and the way this economy is going absolutely sucks. The cost of food is ridiculous, I work at a grocery store and I see people buying the minimum and the price it comes out to is ridiculous.

I live with my parents, I pay rent that they set to help them offset the cost of living with them because I have three other siblings, my meager portion of rent for what I can afford still doesn’t help them any. I’ve watched them struggle to raise four kids all my life and now I only wish to help them while living with them and I am finding it difficult. It doesn’t help that high school didn’t help prepare me any for a career…the councellers were absolutely useless.

Things Paige Morrison will never understand about Mirabelle, Florida:

Why wearing red shoes makes a girl a harlot
Why a shop would ever sell something called “buck urine”
Why everywhere she goes, she runs into sexy-and infuriating-Brendan King

After losing her job, her apartment, and her boyfriend, Paige has no choice but to leave Philadelphia and move in with her retired parents. For an artsy outsider like Paige, finding her place in a tightly knit town isn’t easy-until she meets Brendan, the hot mechanic who’s interested in much more than Paige’s car. In no time at all, Brendan helps Paige find a new job, new friends, and a happiness she wasn’t sure she’d ever feel again. With Brendan by her side, Paige finally feels like she can call Mirabelle home. But when a new bombshell drops, will the couple survive or will their love come undone?

My Thoughts

What a lovely feel-good novel this was. I don’t exactly know where to begin with my thoughts. The whole novel was like a movie playing in my head, for one because you can picture yourself in the setting of Mirabelle and place yourself in Paige’s shoes as being the outsider in a small town. The novel was humorous in most spots, so much so that I was told to stop “cackling” roughly around midnight. But it was also sad in others like with the death of her father. It was a tear jerker both happy tears and sad tears.

The main characters were your typical – girl meets boy, boy and girl fall in love, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back and they live happily ever after – couple. < This most of the time isn’t a bad thing and wasn’t in this case. Paige and Brendan had their share of flaws and skeletons in their closet, and were easily relatable as I mentioned above. I could place myself in Paige’s shoes.

In the beginning I never would have guessed that Brendan would get her a job working in a funeral home, that had been a twist I wasn’t expecting at all. It did end up working out for her in the end and she actually enjoyed working with what she did. I also didn’t expect her father to pass away with cancer. That plot twist was a blinding, mostly because how the author introduced it into the plot was subtle but out of the blue – like all of the sudden he wasn’t feeling well and had pain and the only one who noticed had been Brendan. I don’t know about Pancreatic cancer from personal experience and each instance could be different but when a family member of mine had cancer you could tell there was something wrong, it slowly got more noticeable. They should had been able to notice but in the defense of Paige and her mum, they probably didn’t know the signs that started to show that he had cancer.

All in all it was a very good read and I’m excited to read all about Jax and Grace’s relationship…hopefully in the second book.

My Rating: 4.5/5

Sullivan’s Legacy – 1.1

In her first few days in town, Leila bought a nicely sized plot of land, and four walls were built with a roof to stay over her head. With what left over money she had left she bought meager furniture from the online catalogue on her phone and thus her place was sparsely furnished.

She spends her morning doting on her pal shadow before the two of them head into town to the local dog park for the weekly “Dog Social Hour”.

< At the dog social hour Leila met Shawnee Fox who was attending with his child Dakota Fox and there hay-loving friend Bramble. Leila decided that the only thing she could think about when she met Shawnee was the fact that she was attracted to him…and apparently he was to her to. (Writer rolling eyes here, seriously get a grip Leila, no one wants to be a home wrecker in a small town, word travels fast like a forest fire)

As per her opportunity Leila introduced herself to a few of the townsfolk’s pets. Shawnee disappeared with his child and she decided that maybe since he gave her his number she would text him so he would get hers.

She finds two wildflowers that now take up residence on her night side table. They added a certain kind of charm to her bedroom area and made where she’ll rest her head smell like a field of wildflowers. How pretty!

Leila decides that while she’s at the dog park she might as well make use of the place and teach shadow a new trick. She has been kind of lacking in his obedience training, but he’s a good dog so it doesn’t show…much.

The rest of the afternoon goes off without a hitch as she heads home to her humble abode. We find her looking in the newspaper. With any luck maybe she’s finally decided to look for a job. Alas…that’s a negative on the job search, she’s decided to seek out information on the discount classes…it’s guitar today which won’t help her. Oh well off to the city hall I go…its a charisma class I’m after.

Leila’s hard earned money spent on a class allows her to manage to grasp the basic concepts of charisma…it’s a miracle. She thinks the class curriculum could use a revamp. The class it’s self was very dry and she fell asleep for half of it.

Writing Resources?

NaNoWriMo is less than a month away. What are your writing resources? Are you a planner or a panster?

I personally have given up on writing in any other program but Microsoft office, I’ve tried Scrivner, YWriter, Storyist, Storybook ect. But I guess it depends on the specific person. I have planned my novel and other novels in Microsofts OneNote and have yet to try and see if it works in Evernote. Before I got the microsoft series Evernote was my go to for pretty much everything. If you’ve read my post on planning then you know the layout I set for my novels…it also depends on if your world building or not. I believe I could get Evernote to work I just haven’t figured out how.

I’m currently looking for a music site, or program other than itunes where I can compile music playlists. I was using youtube but it’s a bit annoying that I can’t set a song on repeat or anything and I dislike itunes. I used youtube the most because some of the songs I don’t have and youtube was a way of listening to them for free. Might just have to bite the bullet and buy the song.

Heres a list of some of my writing resources:

1. NaNoWriMo.org – I frequent the forums ALOT…I do word count shoutouts and talk to other writer’s on there. I also use the adoption forum for dares and plot lines, and even sometimes names.

2. WriteorDie – I don’t use this one as much as i’d like to. I find that even though I want to use it to boost my inspiration that I don’t.

…can’t think of anymore off the top of my head but i’ll update the list when I do.

Are you a planner or a pantster?

As most of you can probably tell I’m a planner…or at least a partial planner. I’ve got a general plot line and knowledge of where I’m starting, a little of whats going on in the middle and where I want to at least end up at the end of it all. What about you?
